Customized worm gear

Do you need your worm gears to be custom made? Lönne offers special design for shaft diameter, flanges, reduced backlash, double oil seals input/output, Atex or Nema approvals. All we need is your request. Furthermore, we can supply worm gear boxes in stainless steel that are especially suitable for the marine-, the chemical- and food industries. Consequently, we can supply worm gears to several industries as well as in a wide range of varying sizes and for different conditions.

When you buy our worm gear, we offer you many combinations and varieties in relation to the choice of flanges, gear housings, mounting options, shaft execution and oil types amongst others.

Reliable and robust worm gears

You want to be sure that your worm gear is made in a good quality material? At Lönne we only use quality components. The gear housings can be made ??of stainless steel which is highly convenient in several industries, but they can also be made from more solid materials such as cast iron or aluminium. The worms are offered in case hardened and polished effort steel, whilst the worm wheel is made of quality bronze. In addition, our worm gears have effective seals with a dust lip that makes it dust and water resistant.

How does a worm gear function?

A worm gear is a special designed gear with a worm and a worm wheel which is adapted especially for it. Worm gears are suitable when a transmission of power and movement between intersecting and rotating shafts is needed. The actual worm is shaped like a cylindrical screw with either one or more races that meshes with the worm wheel. The worm wheel is a special designed sprocket with screw-shaped, concave teeth that goes into the screw thread.   

If a single start worm is used, the worm gear will advance only one tooth for each 360° rotation of the worm. In comparison, the worm gear can move two teeth ahead in a single rotation if a double start worm is used. On a perpendicular mounted shaft onto which the worm wheel is fastened, the worm gear transfers a rotational movement around the shaft/worm to a slower rotational motion.
