Why the IE2 electric motor saves energy

As the IE2 electric motor is highly efficient it has a compact size. In most cases it is therefore possible to reduce the size of your electric motor when you switch to an IE2 electric motor. Earlier on there has been a tendency to use a larger motor size than needed but new research has proved that it is possible to reduce the motor size by implementing an IE2 electric motor. As a result, the amount of cables and wires can be reduced as well. Finally, the smaller motor will also accommodate a saving on the electricity bill as well as on the level of CO2 emissions.

The IE2 electric motor is increasingly popular

IE1, IE2 and IE3 are all standard categories that describe the efficiency level of a motor. Today, it is becoming increasingly more common that the energy efficiency of an electric motor is important when choosing a motor. This especially applies to companies that are required to meet certain environmental- or user demands. For that reason, several companies now order the IE2 motor as standard equipment. This is more common in the larger companies whereas the smaller ones still use standard motors that are 15 – 20 percent cheaper. New categorization for IE2 electric motors

The standard motors are included in the IE1 category, whereas far more energy saving solutions are available with either an IE3 or an IE2 electric motor. The following rules are all applicable in accordance to the EU regulative no. 640/2009 dated the July 22^nd 2009:

• As of June 16^th 2011 all motors from 0,75 kW to 375 kW are required to meet the energy efficiency standards of IE2
• As of January 1^st 2015 all motors from 7,5 kW to 375 kW are required to meet the energy efficiency standards of IE3
• As of January 1^st 2017 all motors from 0,75 kW to 375 kW are required to meet the energy efficiency standards of IE3
